The walk up the snowy mountain was strenuous as it was rather slippery but well worth the effort.

The Gentoo penguins lay their eggs in rock nests. This year there is still too much snow covering the rocky terrain and many of the penguins have built their nests and laid their eggs below the water line. There is unfortunately no chance of survival for their young.

Lunchtime was a nice treat with a barbecue on deck. Hamburgers, hotdogs, steak and fish skewers, not to forget all the trimmings and the delicious salads to go along. Even the weather graced us with sunshine and blue skies!

On to Danco Island and my polar plunge!

At around 8 PM, those that were lucky enough to win the camping lottery were dropped off on a small island to spend the night at Leith Cove. Observed most of the night by a small penguin.

While the campers were setting up their tents for the short night (they were to be picked up at 5 AM) others enjoyed a peaceful kayaking tour.

that is an absolutely SPECTACULAR photo of Klaus xxx and you are completely crazy, Colette … your Polar Bear Plunge was quite the “adventure” :-O
It was an adventure that I had been considering since February but was afraid to commit to, in the end it was not as bad as I thought it would be 🥶🤭
Brrr…7 Grad!
Nichts für mich🥶
